2012 at LES

Of course, our focus continues to be on providing the best educational experience to our students as possible.  We work to maximize each child’s growth while attaining a proper balance of effort and outcomes.  With a wide range of student skills and learning rate it is a challenging task!   One of our primary focus points to this end is to develop and implement curriculum and instructional practices that promote flexibility and allow students to naturally extend their thinking.  Our math program (Investigations), due to a strong inquiry based model, is a great example of a focus on mathematical thinking versus a strict focus on mastery or knowledge of math algorithms.   Our new literacy curriculum assesses and places students at optimal instructional levels in small group reading instruction, while maintaining a strong effort at group instruction in key reading processes, writing, and comprehension skills.

Character education continues to be a focus with our students, with our core components of  “Care, Respect, and Responsibility” forming the foundation to our initiatives.  Daily announcements and monthly recognition “celebrations” are two specific events at LES.   Our “My Voice My Choice” district focus links wonderfully with these practices.

We continue to refine our communication links with parents through teacher and building blogs, and the interface of our home web page and Facebook pages.   We have added a printed “weekly update” that is sent home with all students on Friday’s, and also highlighted an initiative that allow’s parents to subscribe via email to all LES web page posts.

LES Curriculum and At-Home Resources.

Parent/School partnerships play a critical role in your child’s education.  To the right on this page you will find web links to our core math and literacy programs, in addition to some informative and helpful resources to support your child’s growth at home.  Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or our office with questions or to request additional information.
